Jainism, one of the world's oldest religions, traces its origins to ancient India. This faith, which emphasizes non-violence, truth, and asceticism, has profoundly influenced Indian philosophy and culture. At its core, Jainism teaches that every living being possesses a soul and has the potential for divine consciousness. The ultimate goal for Jains is to achieve liberation (moksha) from the cycle of birth and death (samsara), which is attained through ethical living and spiritual practice.
Central to Jain philosophy is the principle of Ahimsa, or non-violence. Jains believe that all forms of life are sacred and must be respected. This extends to rigorous practices, such as strict vegetarianism, to avoid causing harm to any living creature. The commitment to non-violence also influences Jain economic practices, leading many to pursue professions that minimize harm to living beings.
